It surprises people all the time when I tell them that there are many things that God can't do. Yes, God is all knowing, all powerful and always present, but He has let us know by the Bible who He operates. It will always be "as it is written" in His Word. Insurance companies call natural disasters "an act of God". Just because God (who is all knowing) recorded in His Word that in the last days there will be an increase in earthquakes and other destructive weather activity, doesn't mean He is doing it. If these things wouldn't be happening, and all the other prophecies that are being fulfilled, I would be perplexed because His Word is always true. No, God does not run around doing His own thing whenever He wants to, because with great power comes great responsibility... Obviously, there are many things that are in His hand (i.e. times, dates, seasons), but He has already told us that in His Word. If God could just run around doing whatever He wanted, everything on this planet would be perfect. It was in the beginning and again will be in the end, as His Word says.
In a nutshell, God gave man dominion over this planet. Man (Adam) gave dominion to the Devil. Jesus defeated the devil and gave all power back to man. If man would become a believer and act according to the rulebook, the Bible, many things would change. So what can't God do? Here is just a few things God can't do. -
God cannot change. James 1:17. Some liberal things want to adjust what God says about certain issues (i.e. abortion, homosexuality), but they will always fall flat on their faces because God's ways are always right. -
God cannot lie. Satan is the author of lies. God's Word can always be trusted. -
God cannot go back on His promises. 2 Corinthians 1:20. His promises are yes and amen. So many Christians have not yet understood all the wonderful things God has promised them. -
God cannot leave us or forsake us. Hebrews 13:5-6. What a wonderful promise to all God's children in any and every situation. -
God cannot be pleased without faith. Hebrews 11:6. Here is a huge reason why many people do not receive what God has promised them. It is in our ability to change our faith level for faith comes by hearing and hearing God's Word. -
God cannot give anything to a double minded person. James 1:8. This one is totally up to us. -
God cannot love sin. Proverbs 6:16. Sin always hurts people sooner or later. God loves people, so sin and God don't mix. -
God cannot do anything contrary to the Scriptures. Rejoice, it's all good to them that believe God and take Him at His Word. -
God cannot force Himself upon you. You have the ability to choose God or reject Him. Your eternal destiny will always be up to you. Go for God. He's a good God all the time.
